Add HOOK for SPRING BURNDOWN

USE HOOK @ 1 – 2 QUARTS PER ACRE PER 100 GALLONS

                                                                                                                                              CL#55, April 2013

Folks, this year more than most, everyone is ready for spring…hint…look out your window…Got Snow??? Storm…!!

Are you a no-tiller?

If so, then you are probably considering your burn down options for this year. Your burndown herbicides can be applied with your early pre-plant or separate. So, let’s swing into spring …with HOOK!

It is important to have a clean slate for the up- coming planting season.  A messy field interferes with planting and planting timing.  Use herbicide products that are designed and recommended for your area.  Always follow pesticide labels and add HOOK last to the tank mix.

Timing and temperature are crucial for weed control.

When deciding whether it is too cold to spray, make sure to consider what weeds are out there and what type of herbicide you will be using.  Two sprays for hard-to-control weeds, like Marstail, may be needed.  Add HOOK last to the tank at the 2-quart/100 gallon rate for these hard-to-control weeds.

  1. Timing is important. Depending on crop planting.
    • Follow label directions for Burndown spraying and plant height.
    • Use HOOK in all Burndown spraying at 1-2 quart /100 gallon rate and add it last to the spray tank.
  2. Temperature is crucial.
    • Should be above 60° F.
    • Spray on a sunny day if possible.
    • Wait a few days if nighttime temps dip below 38°F.
    • Soil temperature should be above 45°F.
    • Stop spraying about 4 hours before sunset to allow for max. translocation within the plant.
  3. Coverage.
    • Be thorough.
    • Use the appropriate nozzle for optimum spray coverage. Use medium spray droplet and moderate pressure.
    • Don’t use nozzles that produce a course droplet size.
  4. Primary application. One application of glyphosate may be enough for burndown
    • USE HOOK WITH ALL APPLICATIONS AT 1-2 QUART/100 GALLON RATE.
    • On hard-to-control weeds, be prepared that you may need to plan for two applications.
    • Always scout the fields afterwards to ensure weeds are controlled.
    • Annual ryegrass can appear brown, but it may grow back.
